Stupid pun is stupid.
Hey all, it’s been quiet here lately and there’s a good reason for that. That is, I’ve been on holiday.
Not an ACTUAL holiday, because let’s face it, the idea of a wheelchair user on a flight these days sends a few airlines into health and safety freefall. No, it’s a short break to have some fun, play some games and generally go outside whilst the weather is somewhat pleasant and run over some feet… I mean, ignore that last part. I never said it. Ahem.
So what am I playing game-wise?
Well, three games right now, and possibly a revival very soon. The first is Payday 2. A game that demonstrates that a sensible budget, rigid focus and trusting that the quality will shine through without spending millions of dollars on marketing can trump any so-called “Triple-A” title. It’s not just that Payday 2 is a riot in the best possible use of that term — although it is, completely and utterly. But that somehow in this strange and brave new world of losses and five million sales of a game not being enough to guarantee a profit, a project sold digitally, made sensibly and budgeted sanely is making Overkill Games the kind of money that sends EA and Capcom into fits of jealous rage. It’s glorious.
The second is Duck Tales Remastered. Dat childhood nostalgia. I could just sit there for hours with the music player, letting the remixed Moon Theme just play over and over and over again. This is remakes done right; joyous, taking advantage of modern sensibilities and advances without robbing the original project of anything – I’d argue that it is enhanced by some of the modern touches and voice-overs. Like Rayman Legends, it shows that the 2D-platformer is still very much live and alive.
The third is perhaps the most obvious; Final Fantasy XIV: A Realm Reborn. I’ll have more on this sometime soon.
Anyway, today I’m off to get my hair cut. And to see about getting a new tower unit for my computer. And enjoy the sunshine.
I’ll be back proper next week at some point. In the meantime, take care and enjoy your gaming!
